Greetings from Washington!
Wow, it has only been three days and already, I can feel that this summer is going to go by so quickly. I love everything so far. The only thing, however, is I wish I had more money and actually over-packed as usual, instead of under-packing. But other than that, I am getting my way around the Washington area.
Everybody is really nice. Sometimes it can be intimidating for me because everyone in the Institute of Political Journalism has so much experience in other journalism outlets, I'm sort of that newb-just-finished-Freshman year that is still blossoming into something better. Can you believe that only 6% of the students in TFAS just completed their freshman year? There's not many of us, but already I am enjoying my time. I am gaining much more confidence and already, I am getting beaten by the head of God, realizing how much precious money is.
I didn't have much money to begin with, so I'm really saving up and not buying expensive foods and resisting the urge to spend on useless dresses. I am getting better, but honestly, I really do feel like a poor musician journalist and now I know how to use my money wisely.
My internship is going well so far. I [sometimes] have my own office. I have the keys and everything. Everybody is really nice and laid-back. I wasn't much of a business kind of girl. I never really paid attention to any of the financial news, but with this internship, I will finally understand the ins and outs of stocks and finance. It's a learning experience and I am trying to learn as much as I can.
Classes, on the other hand, is fine too. Despite being a three-hour class, Ethics goes by really really fast. I am thankful for that. I am still a bit afraid to talk, but once I snag a seat near the window, around the back, I'll be talking in no time. For some reason, I don't like sitting in the front, especially when there is NINTY-SIX people in the class. That's right... 96!! And I thought 30 people in class was big... jeeze!
For the weekend, I plan on visiting the Smithsonian. Well, just walking around the downtown area. My internship is all the way in Bethesda, Maryland so it's the opposite way of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Way opposite, if you ask me. But no worries, I'll be strolling with Obama sometime! haha
